5 Top Tips For Getting Going In The Morning
Most people find it hard to kickstart their day when they wake up in the morning. It’s super common – but thankfully, there are plenty of tips and tricks to help you wake up more gently and start your day in a more positive frame of mind. Here are our five top tips on getting up and getting going first thing in the morning:
Refine your sleep schedule
The most important thing to get you going at the start of every day is to wake up at the right point within your sleep cycle. You go through different stages of sleep, from a light sleep to a deep slumber and a dream state which is most commonly referred to as REM sleep. Most people need four or five of these cycles every day, and consistently waking up at the same time will ensure those cycles settle and you wake up during your lightest sleeping point. Waking up during this point in the cycle will make it far easier to wake up in the morning and shake off the tiredness more quickly.
Place your alarm out of reach
It may seem cruel, but setting your alarm across the room from you can help you wake up much faster. The hardest part of starting your day is that first step: getting out of bed. If you can do that quickly then the hard part is already over. It’s just like ripping off a plaster - do it fast and it will hurt so much less. Studies have shown that if you change your environment within the first five minutes of waking, then the rest of day will also be more productive – so get yourself moving, fast.
Ramp up the heating
Waking up in a warm room will make the start of your day so much brighter. You won’t dread the change in temperature when you get out of bed, and it’ll be much easier for you to get moving. Set your heating to warm up your room about thirty minutes before you’re scheduled to get up. It only takes a second to set, and you’ll thank your past self for it when you get up into a toasty warm space.
Keep your comfies close at hand
It’s not just warmth that we’re looking for at the start of the day; we also want to be cosy and comfortable while we’re getting dressed and making breakfast. Leaving some slippers by your bed to slide your feet into will set you up in the right frame of mind for the day. If slippers won’t be enough to keep you cosy, then leave your favourite jumper by your bed as well to throw on before you even step out of bed.
Caffeine always helps
We all know that caffeine is one of the best ways to get going in the morning, so why not place a mug next to your bed so you have something to look forward to when you wake up? Kickstart your day with the energy you mean to continue with; don’t prolong the struggle- just get up and go.
