How To Spring Clean Your Way To Better Sleep

Today marks the Spring Equinox – the official start of spring. After today, the daylight hours will be longer than the hours of darkness, and temperatures will (hopefully) start to rise. Spring has sprung!

We all know spring is the season of fresh starts and new beginnings - and there’s nothing better than giving your space a good spring clean to get the warmer months off to a great start. Here are some of our top tips to breathe a little life into your bedroom and create the perfect sleep space this spring.

Banish the clutter 

Decluttering is the foundation of every good spring clean – so it’s time to get ruthless. Purging clutter will also help take your room from chaotic to calming. It’s been shown that our bodies respond negatively to clutter and mess, triggering stress signals that might make it harder for you to fall asleep. So grab a bag and dispose of anything causing clutter – then tidy up and organise the items that are staying behind.

Revive your bed

Now’s the perfect time to assess your bedding situation. Pillows no longer offering neck support? Bin them. Mattress giving you back pain in the mornings? Upgrade it. With the foundations sorted, you can treat yourself to a quality set of sheet. These will breathe new life into the room visually, and you’ll wake up feeling like a new person.

Goodbye, dust bunnies

The area around your bed collects a huge amount of dust – and if you’ve got allergies, this is a recipe for many sleepless nights and sniffly mornings. Even if you don’t have allergies, too much dust can cause breathing issues during the night, which can affect your sleep too. Pull your bed away from the wall completely and vacuum thoroughly around the entire area – you might just notice you sleep better for it.

Get rid of dirty laundry piles and make sure your sheets are freshly laundered. Foul smells can disrupt your sleep, and also make your bedroom a pretty unpleasant place to be. Consider cracking a window during the day, to allow fresh air to circulate and flush out bad smells. Once you’ve got rid of any nasty smells, consider introducing a relaxing fragrance into the room.
